Dear Parents and Guardians,
We hope you are keeping well and we look forward to communicating with you throughout the year. As you may be aware the Department of Education has implemented a full return to school. Plans have already commenced for Transition Year and we ask for your support and understanding while we attempt to navigate these unchartered waters. Some useful documentation can be found here: https://www.gov.ie/en/campaigns/a128d-back-to-school/?referrer=http://www.gov.ie/backtoschool/ . We intend to proceed with TY with the same spirit and determination as we did the Pre Covid programme but of course there may be changes, losses and a lot of positive and creative thinking required.
The cost for the TY Programme 20/21 is €230, I have spent the last two weeks restructuring the programme in order to keep the costs of TY as low as possible. Many of our workshops and courses have switched to online delivery (see below) and we have replaced or included certain modules to ensure COVID compliance. We are pleased to offer the reduced cost of TY at €230 per student for the 2020/2021 programme. Payments should be made via Way to Pay with Ashling in the office and no later than 30th September 2020. Most materials and course providers will be paid for in advance by the school so it is vital that we ensure that we have the budget to supplement it. Any families experiencing financial difficulties or concerns about payment should send an email in confidence to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and arrangements will be made.
Updates for the 2020/21 TY Programme (So Far….)
NB: For the 2020/21 Programme The TY Portfolio will now be digital and would suit our needs in the event of further school closures
We will include a brand-new MEDIA BROADCASTING course from TINPOT MEDIA. Facilitated by expert trainers and using interactive online video tutorials, students will learn by doing – working through modules covering areas like radio presentation, editing, audience engagement, scriptwriting, and music playlisting, to name a few. https://www.tinpot.ie/training/ty-transmission/
We will also include a fully certified First Aid Course, Manual Handling and HCCAP Food Safety Course from www.firstaidcoaching.ie These certificates are valid for 2 years.
Transition Year offers pupils a broad educational experience. It provides a bridge to help
pupils make the transition from a highly structured environment to one where they will take
greater responsibility for their own learning and decision making. Pupils participate in
learning strategies which are active and experiential, and which help them to develop a range
of transferable critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills.
TY also gives students an opportunity to reflect on and develop an awareness of the value of
education and training in preparing them for the ever-changing demands of the adult world of
work and relationships.
