Science Week As part of science week at Colaiste Dun an Ri, Science Foundation Ireland visited our school to give students an interactive sports science workshop. During this workshop the students worked in teams as they visited different stations to test their speed, strength, power and reaction times. The data collected will be used in science class as we move through the course to show students how science can apply to real life. On Thursday the school was delighted to welcome Mr. Dick Clerkin. Dick is a Chemical Engineer and has worked in different companies before he joined the local plasterboard giant, Gyproc Saint-Gobain in May 2016. Dick spoke to the students about his job as a Chemical Engineer, the course of study he followed to qualify and how the job has allowed him to pursue other interests whilst still advancing his career. He then went on to describe the manufacturing process at the plant. This was of great interest to all of our students, primarily because it is a thriving industry in the local area but also because it reinforces what is being taught in geography class with regard to 'Inputs - processes - outputs' In addition to this, students have been taking part in various science activities each lunchtime during the week including Element Bingo,Guess the scientist and pHet science simulations.
