There were smiles all around in Coláiste Dún an Rí last Friday afternoon when the Transition Year students received their Junior Cert/Cycle results. It was a truly historic day for the students, their parents, staff and the wider community as this was the first ever class to sit a state examination in the new state of the art school, officially opened in Kingscourt in 2017. To mark this memorable day, and in keeping with the spirit of partnership that exists within the school, the students were joined by family members, staff and the third year students, when they received their results. The Chairperson of the school’s Board of Management-also Chairperson of CMETB-Mr Clifford Kelly, was also present to congratulate the students on their success. Mr Boyle, school principal, congratulated the students on the excellent results received, with top grades and Descriptors being received right across every subject. He thanked the staff for their hard work and paid tribute to the parents and guardians for looking after the wellbeing of their children during the run-up to the exams. Mr. Boyle stated that the outstanding results received bore testimony to the excellent teaching and learning environment that exists within the school.

As the dust settles on another academic year in Coláíste Dún an Rí and with a new year about to commence it is a good time to remind ourselves of the achievements this school has continued to make over the past number of years. At the end of May, students and their parents were invited to our annual Evening of Excellence were they were presented with awards based on their achievements throughout the academic year. On the night our special guest was Mr. Colm O'Rourke, former All-Ireland winning footballer for Meath and current principal of St. Patricks Classical school Navan. Mr O'Rourke has also made a name for himself through his punditry with RTÉ. He spoke fondly of his memories of playing football in Kingscourt at the beginning of his footballing career. He recalled one particular occasion when Meath played Cavan, in Kingscourt Stars pitch and how a Kingscourt man playing full back had almost knocked football out of him for good!

We were also joined by Mr Michael Donohoe from Link Credit Union. Link Credit Union have generously sponsored our awards night for the last two years and without thier support the event would not be the success that it has proven to be.

In his address, Mr O'Rourke reminded students that when he was at school he had a keen interest in football and that opportunity had provided him with a platform for success. He highlighted the array of opportunities students where being offered in Coláiste Dún an Rí, based on how successful students had been in a number of sports and extra curricular activities ranging from Handball to Dancing and pointed out that whilst not everybody is born with the same talent, sporty, academic, musical. etc. it is important that students engage with the opportunities provided to them in order to find there talents, achieve their dreams and use it as their platform to success.

Below are some photos taken on the night.
