As part of Engineering Week 2017, 6-10th March, students took part in a myrriad of activities throughout the week. On Monday students visited the new building of Coláiste Dún an Rí to see a first hand example of Enginnering.

At the end of January Metalwork students were also offered the opportunity to go to A STEM centre (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) in South West College, Dungannon, Co. Tyrone. This was organised in adavance of Engineering week to prommote Engineering within the school. Here students had the opportunity to enagage with engineering as they were sent back in time to World War 1. Here they were challenged with activities such as building tunnels to support heavy loads and designing their own aeroplanes whilst examining the forces that make aeroplanes fly.

On Thursday Morning Terry Farrelly from O'Reilly Brothers concrete also visited the school were he gave staff and students and insight into the role of an engineer and outlined O'Reilly brothers involvement with the development of the new school. He showed students detailed auto-cad drawings of how the school was designed and how this was used to manufacture the school.

Throughout the week various other activities took place which gave students a chance to test their knowledge of engineers and also there visuospatial skills. A key skill engineers must execute in order to visualise the outcome of their work.
