Junior Cycle

 The Junior Cycle Programme incorporates the existing Junior Cycle and the New Junior Cycle Schools Award.

The Junior Cycle subject provision constists of Core and Elective subjects.

 

Core Subjects:

All students study the following subjects in Junior Cycle

Irish

English

Maths

French

Science

Geography

History

Religious Education

Physical Education

CSPE

SPHE

Career Guidance

 

Elective Subject:

Students are required to choose three subjects from the following list to study for Junior Cycle

Art

Business

Home Economics

Materials Technology (Wood)

Metal Work

Music

Technical Graphics

 

Students will sit a maximum ten subjects for the Junior Cycle examination

 

Transition Year

A Transtition Year Programme is currently being devised. The Transition Year Programme will be offered from 2019 and will be compulsory for all students for the first year of its existance.

For subsequent years the Transition Year Programme will be an optional programme for students with a defined selection process.

 

Leaving Certificate Programme

The Leaving Certificate Programme offers the following curriculum to students:

Core Subjects (all students will participate in the following subjects)

English

Maths

Religious Education

Career Guidance

Physical Education

 

Elective Subjects (based on resources and availability students may choose to study four of the following subjects)

Agricultural Science

Art

Biology

Business

Chemistry

Construction Studies

Design and Communication Graphics

Engineering

French

Geography

History

Music

Physics

 

 

 

 

School begins each day at 8:45am with Morning Registration and Tutorial. Students are expected to be present in their Tutorial Classrooms at this time.

 

Classes are of 58 minutes duration.

 

Lunch time is from 1:10pm to 1:50pm. (Students remain on campus during lunch time and are do not have permission to leave school).

 

School finishes at 3:46pm on Monday,Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and finishes at 1:10pm on Wednesday.

Students enrolling in Coláiste Dún an Rí for September 2022 will undertake a period of Subjest Sampling until the October midterm break. Students will get an opportunity to participate in the subjects listed below and then make a choice on what subjects they wish to continue. Students will also receive career guidance from our Guidance Counsellor during sampling period.

Enrolments for the Academic Year 2022 -2023 will commence on 14 October 2021. We will process application forms from that date.

An online Open Night will take place on the evening of 14 October to give parents and students information about the school.

 

Below you will see our Admissions Notice 2023, our Admissions Policy 2022 -2023, a short message from the principal and finally an Application Request Form. 

Should you wish to discuss your child's application and/or arrange a tour of the school please contact the principal, Fergal Boyle, and this request can be facilitated.
